Creating a Stellar Guest Room

Get ready for holiday guests with the ultimate guest room! Create a boutique hotel vibe that'll have your guests swooning and you feeling like the ultimate hostess. Because I also do vacation rentals, I’ve come up with things I feel make the room seem like you are walking into a boutique hotel room and not down the hall from a teenager, rambunctious 9 year old and a horde of pets.

Bedding

Essencials

Let’s start with the bedding. It’s the foundation of the room - you want it to be done right and you want it to be comfortable.I like to provide a light coverlet quilt or bedspread with a heavier, fluffy warm comforter at the foot of the bed. That gives your warm sleepers and your cold sleepers both options. Have easy access to a soft cozy throw in case someone wants to take a little nap. In terms of decorative pillows, I like Euro pillows layered with either lumbar or throw pillows to create a layered look.

Depending on your bed size, go with two or three of the Euro pillows with an additional two or three decorative pillow in front of them. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, layers are what makes a room look luxurious so by adding each one of these elements, you are elevating the room and welcoming the guests as soon as they walk in the door.

Sheets – these don’t have to be from Peacock Alley to still be nice, in fact I recommended some sheets in my Amazon store that are under $50 and still feel great. I like doing white because it gives off hotel room vibes and they are easy to bleach if they get stained. Another nice touch is to iron the sheets using linen spray. I use Mary Ellen’s but I’m sure there are others out there that you may like. Guests always comment on how good my sheets smell and it’s something that lasts several days. If you aren’t into pressing sheets, use a special detergent like Tyler DIVA – the scent last for days with no ironing. Makes the whole room smell great. And if your sheets ARE wrinkled when you put them on the bed, just mist them with water and run your hands over them to smooth those right out.

Pillows and Towels

Pillows should be new to newish and you should have extras in the closet because people have all kinds of caveats when it comes to how they sleep and pillows play a big part in making the area comfortable. Amazon puts their cooling pillow on sale every so often and when they do, I buy a set so I always have good pillows available.

Towels – lovely plush towels that really are just for guests are another must. I like to fold up a bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth and either place them on the bed or on the counter in the bathroom so guests know they are fresh and they are especially for them. You can also place them in a basket with toiletries for an extra special touch.

Make Up Towels and Charging Stations

Having these dark colored towels, exclusively for makeup removal is a nice extra and allows guest to not worry about staining the pretty towels you put out for them. Super nice touch and always appreciated.

Three in one charging stations that charge your Apple watch, Air pods and phone are a great addition to the night stand. Guests won’t have to fumble for an outlet or worry about forgotten chargers because you’ll have taken care of that worry. I realize not everyone has an Apple product so don’t hesitate to get an Android charger as well!

Trinket Holders, Luggage Stands, Waste Baskets & Towel Hooks

A small dish for jewelry is a nice touch and really cute. Etsy has hundreds of different styles for any personality and décor.

It’s so nice for guests to have a place to put their luggage and a luggage stand is an easy thing to fold up and store when they are gone.

Make sure whatever bathroom your guests are using has hooks for them and if you are looking to go that extra mile, supply them with a soft comfy robe for use while they are there. Barefoot Dreams robes are so wonderful but any soft robe is a great addition.

And don’t forget to give your guests a place to throw their trash. Seems simple but often overlooked.

Put a box of tissues next to the bedside in a nice tissue box. People always appreciate easy access to tissues, especially in the winter months! Again, check out Etsy - I love these monogrammed covers!! So cute.

Have a wifi sign in the bedroom so guests can easily connect. You can make this yourself or again click on over to Etsy – this one is like $13.

Other great amenities are a full length mirror - always nice to be able to take a look at yourself prior to leaving the house – your guests feel the same way so give them a spot to do that. We’ll round out this list with a Hair Dryer in the bathroom, a steamer and nice hangers in the closet.

I hope these tips inspire you to create the ultimate guest oasis, so warm and welcoming that your loved ones will never want to leave (not sure that is a good thing or a bad thing).
